Trenches have been excavated for the retaining wall footings. Rebar has been used extensively to reinforce the concrete that will be poured for the retaining walls and footings. This should stabilize the hill and provide tiered, level planting areas. Due to the steep grade, a lot of work must be done on the hillside before plantings begin. The elevation and orientation of the garden provides good views and sun exposure. The site (as well as much of the neighborhood) regularly experience high winds from the southwest which the gardeners will have to consider in their planting plans.(Photos taken March 31, 2012).
